COACHING & CLASS SUPPORT
Assist classes, learn delivery, support Members and gradually take more responsibility as your competence develops.
Our apprenticeship is our most comprehensive route into the AAAsports team. You are employed for 30 hours each week while developing as a coach, completing your qualifications and learning how every part of the organisation works.
An AAAsports apprentice is not attached to one class or one coach for 30 hours a week.
You work across the organisation and build a broad understanding of what it takes to operate AAAsports, while following the same practical Coach Education pathway that develops you towards becoming an AAAsports Coach.
The aim is breadth as well as depth. Coaching matters, but so do Member Services, schools, events, cleaning, administration, competitions and the hundreds of practical jobs that keep the organisation running.
Your exact week will vary according to the timetable, events and what you are currently developing. These are the kinds of areas you can expect to experience.
Assist classes, learn delivery, support Members and gradually take more responsibility as your competence develops.
Learn how we communicate with families, handle enquiries and support the Member experience beyond the gym floor.
See the systems and organisation behind timetables, records, communication and day-to-day operations.
Experience delivery with schools, community groups and participants who may need different approaches and support.
Help prepare, organise and deliver events and competitions as part of the wider AAAsports programme.
Work in a different style of delivery during school holidays and help create a positive, active experience.
See what goes into delivering one of the biggest events in our calendar, from preparation through to delivery.
Understand that a professional sports environment stays safe and presentable because the whole team gets involved.
Your apprenticeship combines three strands. They run alongside each other and together build the knowledge, experience and qualifications you need.
Work alongside Tutor Coaches, build coaching competence, track your progress and learn how AAAsports expects its classes to be delivered.
AAAsports funds your Foundation Coach qualification and your British Gymnastics Membership while you are on the apprenticeship.
Work with our training provider through weekly online learning and required activities such as reflective accounts, presentations and other apprenticeship work.
Your Level 2 Community Activator qualification is delivered through our training provider and sits alongside the practical work you do at AAAsports.
This is not separate from your working life. You will regularly reflect on what you have done, show what you have learned and complete the work required for your apprenticeship.
AAAsports is busiest when our Members are available. That means afternoons, evenings, weekends, school holidays, events and competitions are a normal part of the apprenticeship.
If you are looking exclusively for Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 working, this is unlikely to be the right opportunity.
But if you want a varied role, are happy to work when sport actually happens and like the idea that no two weeks have to look exactly the same, this could suit you very well.
Being an employed apprentice does not mean you automatically become an independently signed-off coach. Your coaching development is tracked and assessed in exactly the same way as the rest of our pathway.
Learn practically in real AAAsports classes.
Complete the required online and practical qualification elements.
Required areas are recorded as you learn and demonstrate them.
Prove that you meet the AAAsports minimum coaching standard.
Complete remaining role requirements and continue developing as part of the team.
Your apprenticeship gives you employment and development from the beginning. It does not remove our coaching standards.
You are only put forward for the AAAsports Internal Assessment once your required practical development has been tracked and signed off and both you and your Tutor Coach believe you are ready.
Every AAAsports Coach has to demonstrate that they can safely, confidently and consistently deliver our classes to the standard we expect. We can teach systems. We can teach coaching. We can fund qualifications and give you experience.
What we cannot create for you is genuine interest and enthusiasm.
We want apprentices who get involved. Sometimes that will mean coaching. Sometimes it will mean cleaning, helping at an event, answering an enquiry, setting up equipment or doing something completely different.
If you only want the parts of the job that look exciting, this probably is not the route for you. If you want to understand the whole organisation and are willing to learn, we can work with that.
Develop confidence and ability across a wider range of AAAsports classes.
Progress further in gymnastics and potentially develop into other disciplines.
The more you can coach and contribute, the more opportunities you are likely to create for yourself.
Over time, strong performance and continued development can open up wider coaching, SQUAD, development or future leadership opportunities.
If you are 16+, genuinely enthusiastic, happy to work unsociable hours and want the opportunity to learn across the whole of AAAsports while building qualifications and practical experience, we would like to hear from you.
