Disability Gymnastics & Trampoline
Discover Disability Gymnastics & Trampoline
AAAsports are proud to offer Disability Gymnastics & Trampoline across our classes! Through our vast experience of delivering disability classes, we are able to adapt our programmes to meet individual needs to ensure progression and fun at every class. No matter what the disability, we aim to look at the strengths of the individual whilst working together to create a safe environment for each Member to grow and learn.
All new Members are welcome to come along to any of our classes in advance to meet our Coaches, assess each location and observe the delivery of our classes. By providing us with as much information as possible about each Member, we can ensure that the right adaptations are introduced to the class. If you would like to arrange a visit or to discuss joining further, please contact us!
Can Anyone With A Disability Join?
Pretty much! AAAsports aims to be as inclusive as possible and we accept Members with almost all disabilities! However, the safety of our Members is always paramount and therefore we always recommend that any Members with medical conditions that affect their day-to-day life check with their GP before joining our classes. Due to medical reasons we have a very small number of disabilities which we are not able to accept in our classes:
Are Your Classes Suitable For Those With Autism?
Yes! In 2016, AAAsports signed up to the Autism Charter and thanks to intense training and our experience of coaching Members with Autism, we feel confident to be able to use our skills and resources to enable anyone with Autism to join our activities.
Can I Take Part If I’m Hearing Impaired or Struggle To Communicate?
Yes! Many of our Coaches have undergone training in basic Makaton, specialising in sport. This helps us to better communicate with our Members, meaning our Members better understand our Coaches and enjoy their activities in safe and comfortable surroundings. AAAsports also has Coaches who are fluent in British Sign Language (BSL).
Can I Take Part If I Have Downs Syndrome?
Probably! All that we ask is that each Member with Downs Syndrome receives Atlantoaxial Instability screening before taking part in our activities, in line with British Gymnastics guidelines. This is a quick and simple screening test, which can be administered by a GP or nurse, and submit the AAI Form back to us before joining.
Can I Take Part If I Use A Wheelchair?
Yes! Some of our Coaches have undertaken the Wheelpower Awareness course that enables us to think of new and creative ways to allow a wheelchair user to get involved in our activities. There are many activities that wheelchair users can take part in both in and out of their chair, and we’re confident we can provide a fun and challenging class every time! We can also provide Trampoline massage, which is great to relax Members at the end of their class! All of our locations are wheelchair accessible, while many locations also have a hoist.
Which Class Should I Attend?
We try to integrate Members with disabilities in to our standard classes where possible, however we may advise that you attend classes at a particular location or with a specific Coach depending on the disability to ensure that we can provide the most suitable class for your needs. To discuss the best class for you, please contact us.
AAAsports also run Private classes for those who would prefer to take part as a group or in a more controlled, less stimulating environment. Please contact us for more information!
What Other Opportunities Will I Have?
AAAsports always try to offer additional opportunities to all of our Members wherever possible. This includes offering awards within our classes, but also many Members will get the chance to take part in the AAAsports Championships every June/July, or even the chance to join one of our Squads. In addition, Disability Members can also access the I’M IN Competition, which is run by AAAsports each year and provides a variety of levels to ensure everyone can take part!
What Is I’M IN?
The I’M IN programme was developed to encourage more people with disabilities to take up our activities. AAAsports are one of only a handful of British Gymnastics I’M IN Hub Clubs and I’M INCLUSIVE Clubs across the UK, having being specifically chosen for this status due to our dedication, enthusiasm and expertise in getting those with a disability involved in sport.
As part of our commitment to Disability Gymnastics & Trampoline, AAAsports run I’M IN Coaching Clinics to help train Coaches throughout the region to feel more confident in delivering classes to people with disabilities. In addition, AAAsports organise dedicated I’M IN Taster Days and I’M IN Competitions across the year!
